"Vision is a hard problem. It seems deceptively easy only because humans come with
extraordinarily good subconscious vision logic built in.
Computers are not so lucky."
A dual degree programme is a study programme which is offered by two different universities. Students who want to participate in the programme have to fulfil the requirements of both universities which implies on the one hand that the admission requirements for both programmes must be met (e. g. grade point average, language skills, etc.). On the other hand the student has to fulfil the requirements of both universities to issue the degree i. e. he/she must earn all necessary credits for both study programmes. The special character of a dual degree programme is that two degrees will be issued after a study period no longer than the regular period of each of the two study programmes and with only little extra effort.
The benefits of participating in such a program are obvious: By partcipating in a dual degree program you introduce a major international component into your studies, even more than with a "regular" semester abroad. Fulfilling the program/degree requirements of two universities in two different countries is challenging. The program requires good academic performance and also solid english language skills. However, it equips you with high standard international IT education and a lot of intercultural and social skills which might be a great advantage for your future career. Another advantage of completing a four year undergraduate program (Bachelor of Honours) in a North-American country is that you can also apply for a North-American Master program.
The Department of Computer Science at Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences offers dual degree programs with York University in Toronto and with University of New Brunswick in Frederciton, Canada:
In most cases, yes! For details please contact Nadine Fröbel!
The program will start in September 2011 with the first BRSU students going to York University in Toronto for fall term and the first York student coming to BRSU for the Wintersemester.
The Dual Master Program is running since Wintersemester 2007/2008 and the first cohort successfully graduated in Wintersemester 2010/2011. We accept applications for the program for every Wintersemester. Applications for Sommersemester have to be treated individually and may cause delays in the progress of studies.
The first step is to get officially accepted as a Master student (Computer Science or Autonomous Systems) at the Department for Computer Science at Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University. In the first semester (Wintersemester) there will be offered two joint courses transmitted via videoconferencing between BRSU and UNB which are essential for the dual degree program. These courses follow the Canadian academic calendar, which means that the first course, held at BRSU and transmitted to UNB, ends already in December whereas the second course, held at UNB and transmitted to BRSU, is starting in January and ending in April.
The formal application for the dual degree program is processed with an application as an exchange student at University of New Brunswick until the end of October. For this you need to fill in a form and bring your Bachelor transcript.
